Poetry meme from [info]utterlystrange.

I am, of course, none other than blank verse.
I don't know where I'm going, yes, quite right;
And when I get there (if I ever do)
I might not recognise it. So? Your point?
Why should I have a destination set?
I'm relatively happy as I am,
And wouldn't want to be forever aimed
Towards some future path or special goal.
It's not to do with laziness, as such.
It's just that one the whole I'd rather not
Be bothered - so I drift contentedly;
An underrated way of life, I find.
What Poetry Form Are You?

And a bit of history from Wikipedia so you know who used the blank verse.

Christopher Marlowe was the first English author to make full use of the potential of blank verse, and also established it as the dominant verse form for English drama in the age of Elizabeth I and James I. The major achievements in English blank verse were made by William Shakespeare, who wrote much of the content of his plays in unrhymed iambic pentameter, and Milton, whose Paradise Lost is written in blank verse. Miltonic blank verse was widely imitated in the 18th century by such poets as James Thomson (in The Seasons) and William Cowper (in The Task). Romantic English poets such as William Wordsworth, Percy Bysshe Shelley, and John Keats used blank verse as a major form. Shortly afterwards, Alfred Lord Tennyson became particularly devoted to blank verse, using it for example in his long narrative poem "The Princess", as well as for one of his most famous poems: "Ulysses". Among American poets, Hart Crane and Wallace Stevens are notable for using blank verse in extended compositions at a time when many other poets were turning to free verse.

FOR THE HORDE.

Even though my writing is going slowly, I can certainly write [info]utterlystrange's novel for her! In fact, I insist that she use this passage that I have written for her novel.

Cut for manliness. )

How can she not use that? It's brilliant!

133. Dead Until Dark
Charlaine Harris

Having watched the first season of True Blood, I though I'd read the books, or at least the first book in the series. Unlike Bones, it was a book that I enjoyed and didn't have much dissonance with, though it was kind of goofy at times, but fun. Like the series.

134. Abandoned
Cody McFadyen

You know how sometimes you read a book, and then you look at the title again, and go "wait, what?" That's what I did when I read this book. The story was pretty good, pretty cohesive (except for a could literary devices I didn't necessarily agree with...narrator spots something significant, but says "the secret I noticed" or some shit like that. YOU'RE THE NARRATOR IT'S IN YOUR HEAD I'M IN YOUR HEAD WHAT'S THE DAMN THING YOU NOTICED?!)

135. The Year of the Flood
Margaret Atwood

I've never read anything by Margaret Atwood before, so I thought I'd start with her newest novel, which was a fairly well written, plague-apocalyptic sort of thing. Nothing particularly stuck out, but I enjoyed reading it, until I reached nearly and end and realized that it was a tie in in some way to her other novel along the same veins, Oryx and Crake, which I'd tried to read previously and couldn't get into. So now I feel this moral sort of obligation to try Oryx and Crake again, which I may in fact enjoy more.

Nano Update #6

The widgets are working! Also, I just wrote a thousand words! I'm just going to keep pushing away, and if I don't make it to 50k I'll at least have a lot of story written. I have a plot, and I need to get through these slow spots so I can get the plot going.

How are your word counts, if you're doing NaNo?

Nano Update #5

Still behind, but I'm plugging along. Also, I decided to finally post a chapter of it. So here you are.

Please remember that this is very rough around the edges, and is majorly AU. I haven't hit canon area yet, but I will.

So, without further ado - please enjoy!

Under here! )

NaNo Update #4

And on the third day, I get a massive headache when I'm trying to write and I can't write. *sigh* I'll play catchup later, but right now I'm going to bed. But I did get 521 words written today, so all is not lost.

*goes to nurse aching head*

132. how to Raise the Perfect Dog: Through Puppyhood and Beyond
Cesar Millan

There are a whole lot of words in Cesar Millan's books, and a whole lot of catch phrases and not nearly enough pictures. Other than that? Not a whole lot of useable substance.

Word count as of "save and close" last night: 5058

NaNo Update #3

There we are. That's better. I've finally gotten Control Number Two into the novel, and I got to write about eggs and mention C2 being in a purple suit, so I am pleased.

I know I need to give the whole thing a kick in the pants so it'll get going, plot-wise, but right now I'm having fun meandering through Control's weirdest day ever. And Tony working with Tom = fun!

I'll post some of it later, too. Not yet. I want more word-count on it.

You know your week's gonna be a great one when the first homework assignment in the morning is to write a paper on the Human Condition - but specifically on genocides. Doing the research for this is not fun.

NaNo Update #2

Okay, this is technically the third update, but this is the second major update. I've got a plot going, I've got my characters worked out so far, and I've had Neddy show up for a brief moment.

I'm enjoying myself! And I'm ahead so far! *hophop*

I also got some wordcount calendars for my desktop, so I can see where I should be every day without having to go check elsewhere. They're nice. :)

Borgle is my new favorite wordthing.

[info]eponymous_rose has cool memes and I can't do NaNoWriMo every day for the rest of this month.

Pick a paragraph (or any passage less than 500 words) from any fanfic I've written, and comment to this post with that selection. I will then give you a DVD commentary on that snippet: what I was thinking when I wrote it, why I wrote it in the first place, what's going on in the character's heads, why I chose certain words, what this moment means in the context of the rest of the fic, lots of awful puns, and anything else that you'd expect to find on a DVD commentary track.

Hit me!

So far!

I sleep, go to church, and come back. Some writing later and I am further along! I am developing my main characters and having fun figuring out where I'm going. No, I'm not ready for posting any samples yet. Wait for it.

Also, Weird Al is strangely conductive to writing business meetings.

EDIT: THIS WORD COUNT METER WORKS IN LJ YES! It's not classy or anything but it works and Write or Die is really really useful. So! Unless I find a better one I'll stick with it for now.

National Novel Writing Month: Day One

Started at 12:03 (because of the puppy) and got up to 1752 words before going to bed. Not my usual "I'm ahead!" margin, but an appropriate start.

[info]zekkass

NaNo Update #1

I cannot find a working wordcount meter for here at the moment. However, I have 460 words written, and that's .92% of the way there.

Either way, it's 12:45 AM and I have started NaNoWriMo.

Updates with the actual text of what I have written will come when I am further along.

And yes - Control's in the story. I don't know how long I'll stick with my plans, though. Wish me luck!

131. Part of the Pride: my life among the big cats of Africa
Kevin Richardson with Tony Park

Interesting, but the book is full of his tumultuous and troubled youth, and then furth full of poor decisions he makes around lions and other animals that could get them blamed and put down for harming humans.

130. Notes from the Underwise
Quinn Cummings

A memoir of a child actor (though I have no idea who she is), which is often very hilarious. It caught my attention because of Dostoevsky's Notes from the Underground, and though, as Jim said, Dostoevsky is rolling in his grave, I was amused.

[info]gwentastic

No spoilers in this post because I've YET to see it.

I just showed my Mom a manip of where I smooshed Merlin and Arthur together for my wallpaper.

The wallpaper in question )

Mom *points at Merlin*: See if you put him over on the other side he could look at that guy (Arthur) like *high voice* I loooove you.
Me: O_o *momentarily speechless* But he’s shorter than him.
Mom: I know.. it’s still funny.
Me: yes… yes it is. *traumatized*

[fic] Blue Feathers.

Title: Blue Feathers.
Rating: R, I'd say.
Disclaimer: I own nothing!
Fandom: A Bit of Fry and Laurie.
Pairing: Tony/Control.
Summary: Memories of that first night still made him blush, and it wasn't helping that all he was wearing was paint.
Notes: Set post-series. Enjoy!

The design is lovely, and the blue does match my eyes, Control. )
